Did you know that each time you sit down with your cup of tea you're also drinking 11.6 billion microplastics and some 3 billion nanoplastics too?
That's because some bags are in fact propylene and paper compound, but the worst ones are the posh silky looking type, those are all plastic unless they're actual silk. But any type contains plastic seal to hold them together, and all of that plastic is released into your cup by the hot water.
This has been a complete eye opener. True, there are now some tea companies that claim to be making plastic free bags but actually, what would the carbon footprint of a plastic free bag be? When it's entirely unnecessary and it's actually cheaper to buy loose leaf?
But no need to throw all your remaining tea bags away - you can rip them open and empty them into a teapot with an infuser. And do you know what? It tastes so much better! But if you're brewing just a single cup and want minimal fuss, we at www.happybeak.co.uk have a lovely, simple to use infuser which would also make a lovely little gift. Have you tried loose leaf, or have perhaps always drank it because you knew that it tastes better? We'd love to know so leave us a comment or a suggestion.
